The Sensex erased all its gains from an early morning of 12,181 and slipped into the negative zone to a low of 11,729 - down 452 points from the day's high. The index is now down 65 points at 11,737 at sun outage time.
ONGC has soared 4% to Rs 1,019, and Bharti Airtel has surged 3% to Rs 751.
Wipro and Ranbaxy have rallied 2.3% each to Rs 327 and Rs 252, respectively.
Grasim and Reliance Communications have advanced 2% each to Rs 1,623 and Rs 306, respectively.
Infosys and DLF have moved up 1.8% each to Rs 1,342 and Rs 307, respectively. NTPC has added 1.7% to Rs 172.
Larsen & Toubro has slumped over 7% to Rs 1,005. ITC has plunged over 5% to Rs 171.

ICICI Bank has tumbled nearly 4% to Rs 472. Sterlite, Maruti and HDFC Bank have dropped 3% each to Rs 325, Rs 640 and Rs 1,166, respectively.
Hindustan Unilever has slipped 2.5% to Rs 243. Mahindra & Mahindra has declined 2% to Rs 492.
