Sensex in tight range; auto stocks weak

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 153 points at 9,316. The index has touched a high of 9,363, and a low of 9,280 - a range of 83 points - in morning trades so far. The index is now up 156 points at 9,319.

Sterlite and Grasim have soared 7.5% each to Rs 269 and Rs 1,038, respectively.

DLF has soared 7% to Rs 236. Jaiprakash Associates has surged over 6% to Rs 73.

Reliance Communications and Tata Steel have rallied 4.7% each to Rs 217 and Rs 205, respectively. Hindalco has gained 4% at Rs 53.

Reliance and Wipro have moved up 3.7% each to Rs 1,159 and Rs 247, respectively.

Satyam and ONGC have advanced 3% each to Rs 231 and Rs 679, respectively.

Ranbaxy and ICICI Bank are up 2.5% each at Rs 219 and Rs 379, respectively.

Tata Motors has plunged nearly 3% to Rs 148. Maruti has slipped nearly 2% to Rs 490, and Mahindra & Mahindra has shed 1.3% at Rs 245.

Hindustan Unilever has declined 1.4% to Rs 238.
