After a strong opening, the markets are moving sideways after paring some of its initial gains. The Sensex had hit a high of 18,974 in the opening trades and thereafter slipped to a low of 18,887 in the first hour of trading.
Currently the BSE benchmark index is at 18,925 up 79 points and the Nifty added 17 points at 5,664.
In the broader markets, the smallcap index advanced further with a 1% gain and the midcap index added 0.9%, outperforming the Sensex which is up 0.4%.
Among the sectoral indices, Realty index continues to lead with a 2% gain followed by FMCG, PSU and IT index adding nearly 1% each. On the other hand, Consumer Durables continues to trade in the negative, down 0.1%.
Reliance Communications and DLF up nearly 3% each are the top gainers among the Sensex gainers followed by ONGC, Infosys, Reliance Infrastructure, Sterlite, Jaiprakash Associates and ITC up 1% each.
The top losers are Bharti Airtel and Maruti Suzuki down nearly 2% each. Hindustan Unilever and index heavyweight Reliance Industries down nearly 1% each are the other significant losers.
Market breadth continues to remain positive. Of the total 2351 stocks traded on the BSE, 1625 stocks have advanced while 629 declined on the BSE.
