Sensex near day's high

The Sensex zoomed to a high of 16,647 and is now at 16,608, up 153 points. The NSE Nifty is at 4,939, up 47 points.

The Sensex continues to move sideways and is now at 16,567, up 114 points.

The NSE Nifty 4,930, up 38 points.

Tata Steel has advanced 6.5% to Rs 524. Sterlite has added 3% to Rs 765. Hero Honda, Tata Motors, Hindalco and Reliance Communications have added over 2% each at Rs 1,653, Rs 582, Rs 127 and Rs 307, respectively.

M&M, SBI, Bharti Airtel, ACC and Grasim Industries are up over 1.5% each.

HDFC has slipped 1% to Rs 2,520.

The market breadth is fairly positive, out of 2,750 shares traded, 1,504 advanced and 1,159 declined so far on the BSE.

The BSE Metal index has soared 3.5% to 14,429. Auto, bankex and realty indices are up over 1% each.
