Sensex off calender-year high

The Sensex has touched this year's high at 15,731, after opening in the positive today. The index is now at 15,683, up 295 points.

All the sectoral indices are in the positive and Metal index is leading the rally with over 3% surge.

ONGC has soared 5.5% to Rs 1,157. SBI and Tata Motors have rallied nearly 5% to Rs 1,805 and Rs 414, respectively.

Sterlite has gained over 4.5% to Rs 653. Hindalco and Tata Steel have advanced 3.5% each to Rs 97 and Rs 467, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Infrastructure and Jaiprakash Associates have added nearly 3% each.

The NSE Nifty is now at 4,651, up 80 points. Among the other major gainers, Idea has surged over 4% to Rs 79 and National Aluminium has rallied 4.5%.

The market breadth is extremely positive - out of 2,323 stocks, 1,682 have advanced, while 573 have declined.
