The Sensex touched a high of 15,175, up 182 points from the day's low. The index has now come off from the day's high and is at 15,117, up 107 points.
The BSE IT index lead the rally , up 2.5% at 3,150.
Infosys has soared 4% to Rs 1,633.
Hindalco, ICICI Bank and Grasim have gained nearly 3.5% each at Rs 93, Rs 759 and Rs 2,446, respectively.
Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Power have advanced over 3% each to Rs 711 and Rs 1,074, respectively.
Sterlite and BHEL have added 2% each to Rs 676 and Rs 2,218, respectively.
DLF, Acc, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Maruti and Larsen & Toubro are up 1.5%.
