The Sensex has recovered its losses and is now at 16,291, up 107 points. Among the sectoral indices, Bankex has led the rally with an increase of 1.5% to 8,832.
The NSE Nifty is now at 4,839, up 24 points.
ICICI Bank and Sterlite have rallied 3.5% each to Rs 819 and Rs 772, respectively.
Infosys, BHEL and Tata Motors have added 1.5% each to Rs 2,229, 2,270 and Rs 565, respectively.
Bharti Airtel, ITC and Tata Steel have moved up over 1% each to Rs 415, Rs 230 and Rs 464, respectively.
Hero Honda has declined 2.5% to Rs 1,586.
Mahindra & Mahindra has shed 2% to Rs 820.
Jaiprakash Associates and DLF have slipped 1.5% each.
Among the Nifty stocks, Suzlon and Cairn India have declined 2% and 1.5% to Rs 98 and Rs 266, respectively.
The market breadth is negative - out of 2,816 stocks, 1,568 have declined and 1,167 have advanced.
