The Sensex opened 126 points higher at 8,905 backed by positive cues from the global markets. The index, thereafter, touched a high of 8,928, then pared gains and touched a low of 8,838. The Sensex is now up 80 points at 8,859.
Bharti Airtel has surged over 4% to Rs 609. ACC and ICICI Bank have rallied 2.7% each to Rs 491 and Rs 379, respectively.
Sterlite has gained 2.5% at Rs 243, and Jaiprakash Associates has moved up over 2% to Rs 67.
Reliance and Reliance Infrastructure have advanced 1.6% each to Rs 1,138 and Rs 529, respectively.
Reliance Communications has gained 1.5% at Rs 173. Sun Pharma and HDFC are up 1.3% each at Rs 1,087 and Rs 1,390, respectively.
Ranbaxy has plunged 3.4% to Rs 197, and Hindalco has shed 3% at Rs 46.

DLF has dropped 2.8% to Rs 176. Tata Motors has slipped 1.5% to Rs 138.
Tata Power, Mahindra & Mahindra and NTPC are down over 1% each at Rs 705, Rs 293 and Rs 178, respectively.
