The Sensex has pared its partial gains owing to the weakness in the oil&gas stocks. BPCL has slipped 2% and IOC is down 1%, respectively. The Sensex is now at 17,471, up 58 points and the Nifty is at 5,234, up 12 points.
Among the Sensex-30 stocks, Sterlite Industries and Tata Motors have gained 2.5% each at Rs 693 and Rs 778, respectively. Mahindra & Mahindra has advanced 2% at Rs 621.
HDFC, Wipro, DLF, Hindalco Industries and TCS have added over 1% each on the BSE.
On the other hand, Hero Hond and HUL have slipped 1% each to Rs 2,000 and Rs 257, respectively.
The market breadth is positive, out of 2,643 shares traded, 1,574 have advanced and 984 have declined so far on the BSE.
The BSE midcap and the smallcap indices have added 0.5% each. MTNL has surged 13% to Rs 63 on the midcap index.
Among the sectoral indices, the metal and the auto indices have added 1% each on the BSE.
On the metal index, Sesa Goa and Hindustan Zinc have added 2% each. Exide Industries and Mahindra & Mahindra are the top gainers on the auto index, up 2.5% each.
