The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 290 points at 9,298, but has since pared some of its gains. The index is now up 112 points at 9,120.
HDFC has surged 5% to Rs 1,625. Jaiprakash Associates has rallied over 4% to Rs 62.
Tata Motors and ICICI Bank have advanced 3.5% each to Rs 161 and Rs 347, respectively.
Maruti has dropped nearly 3% to Rs 528. NTPC has slipped over 2% to Rs 130, and Hindustan Unilever is down 1.5% at Rs 216.
