The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 164 points at 10,522, and touched a high of 10,655 in early trades. The index thereafter pared gains and touched a low of 10,491. The index is now up 136 points at 10,485.
Mahindra & Mahindra has zoomed 5.7% to Rs 444. Reliance Communications has soared nearly 5% to Rs 206.
HDFC and DLF have rallied over 4% each to Rs 1,650 and Rs 212, respectively.
Bharti Airtel has surged 3.5% to Rs 661. Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro and Hindalco has gained around 3% each at Rs 232, Rs 739 and Rs 58, respectively.
HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank have added around 2% each to Rs 1,058 and Rs 367, respectively.
NTPC and ONGC are up around 1.5% each at Rs 186 and Rs 883, respectively.

Ranbaxy and Hindusan Unilever have shed 2.3% each at Rs 182 and Rs 226, respectively. Grasim has dropped 2% to Rs 1,570.
ACC and Reliance Infrastructure have slipped 1.7% each to Rs 589 and Rs 566, respectively.
Infosys has declined 1.5% to Rs 1,400. BHEL and Jaiprakash Associates are down over 1% each at Rs 1,514 and Rs 96, respectively.
The market breadth is extremely positive - out of 2,240 stocks traded so far, 1,470 have advanced, 699 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
