Sensex pares gains, up 72pts

After touching an intraday high of 15,257, the Sensex has pared gains and is now up 72 points at 15,081.

The Sensex has touched an intraday high of 15,257, up 264 points from the day's low. The index is now 221 points higher at 15,220.

The BSE Capital Goods has soared 4% to 13,073.

The Auto and the IT indices are up 3% each at 4,814 and 3,074, respectively.

Grasim has surged 7% to Rs 2,540. Larsen & Toubro and ACC have soared 5% each to Rs 1,530 and Rs 877, respectively.

Infosys, Mahindra & Mahindra, BHEL and Tata Motors have gained over 4% each at Rs 1,699, Rs 720, Rs 2,260 and Rs 384, respectively.

Ranbaxy, Hindalco ,Tata Power and ICICI Bank have advanced 3-4% each.

Sun Pharma, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, DLF, Reliance Communications, Sterlite, Hindustan Unilever, Maruti, Tata Steel and Wipro are up 1-3% each.

ITC has slipped 5% to Rs 192.

Realiance Infrastructures, Reliance and SBI have declined 1-2% each.

The breadth remains positive, out of 2,855 shares traded, 1,864 have advanced and 934 have declined so far.
