Stocks rose On Friday, with the Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensitive Index posting its sixth weekly gain, after earnings by US firms beat estimates and better data from the world’s biggest economy lifted confidence that the global recession was easing.
The Sensex rose 0.7 per cent to 11,023.09, adding to the 2 per cent gain this week. The S&P CNX Nifty Index on the National Stock Exchange added 0.4 per cent to 3,384.40. The BSE 200 Index climbed 0.9 per cent to 1,303.49. The US Standard & Poor’s 500 Index gained 1.6 per cent yesterday as JPMorgan Chase & Co reported a 10 per cent decline in first-quarter earnings to $2.14 billion.
