The Sensex opened 65 points higher at 9,633, and soon touched a high of 9,739. The index thereafter slipped into red to 9,547 - down 192 points from the day's high. The Sensex has rebounded into the positive zone and is now up 86 points at 9,654.
ICICI Bank has slumped nearly 4% to Rs 325. HDFC and HDFC Bank have plunged nearly 3% each to Rs 1,410 and Rs 919, respectively.
Tata Motors and Jaiprakash Associates have surged around 3.5% each to Rs 179 and Rs 81, respectively.
Reliance Communications, Reliance Infrastructure and Tata Steel have rallied around 3% each to Rs 173, Rs 517 and Rs 202, respectively.
Bharti Airtel, Ranbaxy and TCS have moved up around 2.5% each to Rs 625, Rs 162 and Rs 535, respectively.
Larsen & Toubro has gained 2% at Rs 664. Mahindra & Mahindra and Reliance are up 1.5% each at Rs 376 and Rs 1,538, respectively.
The market breadth is positive - out of 1,914 stocks traded so far, 1,009 have advanced, 820 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
