Sensex recovers from day's low

The Sensex is now off day's low and is now at 17, 976, up 35 points. The NSE  Nifty is at 10 points higher at 5,375. _____________________________________________________

The Sensex is now at near its day's low at 17,918, down 23 points. The NSE Nifty is at 5,357, down eight points.

The Sensex erased all its gains and is now flat at 17,943, up two points. The NSE Nifty is 5,368, up two points.

ACC is the major gainer on the BSE, up over 1.5% each at Rs 967. Tata Motors, Reliance Infrastructure, Grasim Industries and Bharti Airtel have added over 1% each.

Hindustan Unilever has slipped 2% to Rs 225. Sun Pharma, HDFC, Jaiprakash Associates and ICICI Bank are down over 1% each at Rs 1,793, Rs 2,786 and Rs 150 and Rs 987, respectively.

The market breadth is fairly positive, out of 2,887 shares traded, 1,667 have advanced and 1,132 have declined so far on the BSE.

Among the sectoral indices, oil & gas index has gained 1% at Rs 10,530. Gail India has zoomed 4% to Rs 431. It was followed by Essar Oil, Aban Offshore and Reliance Industries, up 1.5% each .

The BSE midcap and the smallcap indices have added 0.5% each.
