The Sensex has recovered partially from the day's low of 9,681, and is now down 356 points at 9,814.
Hindalco, Tata Steel and Bharti Airtel have slumped around 7% each to Rs 56, Rs 228 and Rs 622, respectively.
HDFC and ICICI Bank have plunged 6% each to Rs 1,790 and Rs 373, respectively. Sterlite has tumbled 5.5% to Rs 251.
Reliance, Tata Motors and Satyam have slipped nearly 5% each to Rs 1,250, Rs 217 and Rs 293, respectively.
TCS and Jaiprakash Associates have dropped over 4.5% each to Rs 521 and Rs 69, respectively.
Ranbaxy has declined over 4% to Rs 248. Grasim, DLF and Reliance Infrastructure are down around 3.5% each at Rs 1,120, Rs 263 and Rs 458, respectively.
BHEL has surged 1.8% to Rs 1,159, and ITC has advanced over 1% to Rs 173.
