The Sensex opened 153 points lower at 9,434, and soon dipped to a low of 9,352. The index, thereafter, soon rebounded into the positive zone and touched a high of 9,630 - up 278 points from the day's low.
The index, however, could not hold gains and slipped back deeper into red to a low of 9,251 - down 379 points from the day's high. The Sensex has recovered from the day's low and is now down 177 points at 9,410.
Satyam has recovered partially from its day's low of Rs 11.50, but is still down a whopping 45% at Rs 22.
DLF has slumped 13.5% to Rs 203. Tata Steel, Reliance Infrastructure and Sterlite have plunged 8.5% each to Rs 214, Rs 513 and Rs 277, respectively.
Ranbaxy has shed 8% at Rs 217. Reliance Communications and Larsen & Toubro have tumbled over 7.5% each to Rs 191 and Rs 718, respectively.
Tata Power has dropped 6% to Rs 748. Reliance has slipped 5.8% to Rs 1,128.

Jaiprakash Associates has declined nearly 5% to Rs 68.
TCS has soared 7% to Rs 539. Hindustan Unilever has surged 4% to Rs 261.
Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti have rallied over 3% each to Rs 310 and Rs 583, respectively.
Infosys has moved up nearly 3% to Rs 1,221, and Wipro has added 1.7% to Rs 248.
The market breadth is extremely negative - out of 2,319 stocks traded so far, 1,874 have declined, 389 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
