Sensex sideways after calender-year high

The BSE Sensex is now at 15,693, up 305 points. The NSE Nifty is now at 4,652, up 80 points.

The Sensex is exhibiting sideways movement now after touching this year's high at 15,731. The index is now at 15,697, up 309 points.

All the sectoral indices continue to be in the positive.The Bankex and FMCG have extended yesterday's gains to surge over 2.5% each.

ONGC has soared 6.5% to Rs 1,168. Tata Motors has surged nearly 6% to Rs 399. SBI and Sterlite have rallied 4.5% each to Rs 1,804 and Rs 654, respectively.

HDFC Bank has gained nearly 3% to Rs1,501. Hindalco, Larsen & Toubro and Tata Steel have advanced 2.5% each to Rs 96, Rs 1,526 and Rs 463, respectively.

ITC, Reliance, Hindustan Unilever and Reliance Infrastructure have added 2-2.5% each.

The NSE Nifty is now at 4,653, up 82 points.  Among the other major gainers, Idea and National Aluminium has surged 4% each.

The market breadth is fairly positive - out of 2,517 stocks, 1,570 have advanced, while 862have declined.
