The Sensex is now up 157 points at 8,979.
Mahindra & Mahindra has zoomed 6.7% to Rs 315. Reliance Infrastructure has surged 4.7% to Rs 512, and Tata Motors has rallied 4.4% to Rs 138.
Tata Steel has gained 4% at Rs 167. Hindalco and ICICI Bank have moved up nearly 4% each to Rs 41 and Rs 348, respectively.
Infosys, Wipro, SBI and Jaiprakash Associates have advanced around 3% each to Rs 1,220, Rs 218, Rs 1,058 and Rs 69, respectively.
Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications and Sun Pharma are up 2.7% each to Rs 656, Rs 161 and Rs 1,029, respectively.
Ranbaxy and HDFC have slipped 1% each to Rs 213 and Rs 1,276, respectively.
The market breadth is fairly positive - out of 2,304 stocks traded so far, 1,347 have advanced, 876 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
