The gains of the index has tapered off in the afternoon trades as gains have dried up in cement, pharma and other select old economy counters. Tech, select heavyweights and auto majors are holding on to their gains, although select counters are trading off their early highs. The Sensex is now up 42 points at 6,620, while the Nifty is steady at 2,081 - up 18 points.Reliance is up a per cent (Rs 6) at Rs 548, while HLL has added 1.72% (Rs 3) to Rs 157. ITC, however, is down a rupee at Rs 1,329.Infosys has gained 2.32% (Rs 47) to Rs 2,091. While Wipro has added 1.68% (Rs 11) to Rs 696, Satyam is up 1.32% (Rs 5) at Rs 408.SBI has clocked a per cent gain (Rs 6) to Rs 654. HDFC Bank is still exhibiting weakness at Rs 570 - down Rs 9 or 1.55%. ICICI Bank is also trading at lower levels with a loss of Rs 2 at Rs 373.Hero Honda is trading firm with a gain of 2.98% (Rs 16) at Rs 547. While Maruti has logged 2.92% gains (Rs 14) to Rs 495, Bajaj (up Rs 5 to Rs 1,075) is trading off-highs. Tata Motors is steady at Rs 503 - up Rs 3.Hindalco at Rs 1,371 (up Rs 14), BHEL at Rs 825 (up Rs 12 or 1.54%) and Tata Power at Rs 406 (up Rs 5 or 1.16%) are trading higher.HDFC, however, has declined 1.50% (Rs 12) to Rs 779.
