The Sensex is now down 144 points at 9,443. The index had opened 153 points lower at 9,434, thereafter, rebounded and touched a high of 9,630 - up 278 points from the early morning low.
The index, however, could not hold gains and slipped back into the negative zone to a low of 9,251 - down 379 points from the day's high.
Satyam has recovered partially from its day's low of Rs 11.50, but is still down a whopping 47% at Rs 21.
Sterlite, Tata Steel and Reliance Communications have slumped around 9% each to Rs 274, Rs 213 and Rs 188, respectively.
Ranbaxy has plunged over 8% to Rs 217. Larsen & Toubro has shed 7.7% at Rs 716.
Reliance Infrastructure and DLF have slipped nearly 7% each to Rs 521 and Rs 219, respectively.

Tata Power has dropped 5.5% to Rs 752. Reliance and Hindalco have declined around 5% each to Rs 1,136 and Rs 52, respectively.
TCS has soared 6% to Rs 534. Hindustan Unilever has surged 4.4% to Rs 263.
Infosys has rallied over 4% to Rs 1,236. HDFC has gained nearly 3% at Rs 1,040.
Mahindra & Mahindra has advanced nearly 2% to Rs 306, and Maruti has added 1.5% to Rs 573.
The market breadth is extremely negative - out of 2,371 stocks traded so far, 1,867 have declined, 446 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
