The Sensex opened with a small negative gap of three points at 6,170 and dipped to a low of 6,091 in early morning deals. After moving in negative zone for most part of the trading session, the index moved into the green on sustained buying in heavyweights towards the closing bell.After touching a high of 6,197, the Sensex finally closed with a gain of 10 points at 6,183.While 19 index scrips declined with a volume of 1.62 crore shares totalling Rs 699 crore, 11 advanced with a volume of 1.04 crore shares for Rs 547 crore.Cement scrips were hammered today after the Holcim/Gujarat Ambuja open offer for ACC at Rs 370 per share. ACC crashed 6.5% (Rs 24) to Rs 342. Gujarat Ambuja declined 5% (Rs 22) to Rs 423. Grasim was down marginally (Rs 4) at Rs 1,279. Heavyweights largely finished with gains. ITC zoomed 11% (Rs 138) to Rs 1,378. ONGC was up 1.6% (Rs 12) to Rs 783. Infosys was up Rs 5 at Rs 1,961. HLL was a notch higher at Rs 142. Reliance dropped Rs 2 to Rs 511. SBI was down nearly a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 576. Tata Motors advanced 2.5% (Rs 11) to Rs 473. Bajaj was up nearly a per cent (Rs 9) at Rs 1,031. Maruti declined 3% (Rs 13) to Rs 395. Hero Honda was down a per cent (Rs 7) at Rs 537. Dr. Reddy's moved up 1.6% (Rs 11) to Rs 721. Cipla was up 2% (Rs 5) at Rs 271. Ranbaxy, however, was down 1.6% (Rs 16) at Rs 983. L&T gained 3% (Rs 27) to Rs 951. Tisco, which reported near doubling of Q3 net, was up a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 352. Bharti plunged 5% (Rs 11) to Rs 201. BHEL, Wipro, HDFC, HDFC Bank and HPCL also declined.
