The market displayed volatility during intra-day trades today. After touching a high of 6,574 and a low of 6,508, the Sensex gained 10 points to close at 6,545 on late buying in select old and new economy stocks. The Nifty ended flat at 2,055.While 17 Sensex stocks advanced, 10 declined today. Advancing shares registered a volume of 47 lakh for Rs 291 crore, and declining shares accounted for a volume of 79 lakh amounting to Rs 368 crore.Reliance closed higher (Rs 3) at Rs 533. ITC was down nearly a per cent (Rs 10) at Rs 1,321. HLL declined more than a per cent (Rs 2) to Rs 160. Infosys, after a mixed outing, closed up a per cent (Rs 12) at Rs 2,041. Wipro also ended with a steady gain of Rs 5 at Rs 692. Satyam, however, was down Rs 2 at Rs 403. HDFC Bank moved up 1.7% (Rs 9) to Rs 570, and ICICI Bank ended with gains (Rs 3) at Rs 363. SBI, however, shed 1.17% (Rs 7) to Rs 635.While Hindalco added 1.16% (Rs 16) to Rs 1,381, Reliance Energy was up a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 575.Bajaj moved up a per cent (Rs 10) to Rs 1,074, and Maruti advanced nearly 2% (Rs 8) to Rs 467. While Hero Honda ended a per cent lower (Rs 5) at Rs 529, Tata Motors was down a tad at Rs 492.ACC gained 1.12% (Rs 4) to Rs 370, and Grasim was up a notch at Rs 1,341. Gujarat Ambuja, however, dropped Rs 2 to Rs 453.While Ranbaxy slipped a per cent (Rs 11) to Rs 1,050, Cipla ended lower by 1.4% (Rs 4) at Rs 274. Dr. Reddy's, however, added 1% (Rs 7) to Rs 734. Bharti dropped 2.67% (Rs 6) to Rs 215.Shares of housing finance companies (HFCs) zoomed today. HDFC rallied over 3% (Rs 24) to Rs 817. SBI Home Finance was locked at its 20% upper limit at Rs 29 - a gain of Rs 5. The counter clocked a huge volume of over 18 lakh shares as against the 2-week average quantity of 3.13 lakh shares. Gruh Finance jumped 17% (Rs 8) to Rs 53. Dewan Housing zoomed 14% (Rs 5) to Rs 40. LIC Housing Finance was up a per cent at Rs 222.
