Gujarat Ambuja gained 4.75% (Rs 19) to Rs 425 after the company announced that the board will meet on April 20 to consider a bonus/stock split. While ACC was up 1.23% (Rs 4) at Rs 367, Grasim ended off-highs at Rs 1,206 - up Rs 6.
ICICI Bank logged a per cent gain (Rs 4) to Rs 412. While HDFC Bank closed up a notch at Rs 559, SBI ended marginally weak at Rs 645.
Bajaj, after a mixed outing, clocked a per cent gain (Rs 10) at Rs 1,090. Tata Motors and Maruti, too, were up a per cent each at Rs 425 and Rs 412, respectively. Hero Honda, however, dropped 2.28% (Rs 12) to Rs 514.
HDFC moved up 2% (Rs 14) to Rs 724. While BHEL added 1.27% (Rs 10) to Rs 801, HPCL was up 1.42% (Rs 5) at Rs 328.
While Reliance Energy declined 1.65% (Rs 9) to Rs 514, Tisco shed 2% (Rs 8) to Rs 381. Zee also ended in the red at Rs 136 - down Rs 2 or 1.45%.
All sectoral indices finished with marginal changes with the BSE FMCG moving up over 1% to 1,079 points.
The mood was modestly bearish - out of 2,423 scrips traded on the BSE, 1,334 declined, 1,027 advanced and 62 were unchanged today.
Essar Steel topped the volume chart with trades in over 92 lakh shares followed by Motherson Sumi Systems (over 61 lakh shares) and Oasis Media (nearly 59 lakh shares).
Essar Steel was the most active counter with a turnover of Rs 86 crore followed by Tata Steel (Rs 81 crore) and Infosys (Rs 60 crore).
