The Sensex opened with a small positive gap of five points at 8,858, which turned out to be the low for the day. The index crossed the 8,900-mark in early deals, and touched a high of 8,912. After moving in a narrow range for most part of the special trading session, the Sensex finally closed with a gain of 36 points (0.40%) at 8,889.Tata Power advanced 3% (Rs 13) to Rs 453. Reliance Energy was up 2.7% (Rs 15) at Rs 569, and NTPC was up Rs 3 at Rs 106.BHEL moved up 2.8% (Rs 39) to Rs 1,424. L&T also gained 2.8% (Rs 45) to Rs 1,689.Bharti Tele was up 2.5% (Rs 9) at Rs 373.Ranbaxy closed with a gain of over 2% (Rs 8) at Rs 379. Dr. Reddy's was up Rs 8 at Rs 933.ONGC moved up over a per cent (Rs 10) to Rs 1,030. While SBI was up Rs 4 at Rs 911, Reliance was up a rupee at Rs 845.
