Sensex up 434pts; ONGC slips 4%

The Sensex has pared some more gains on the back of profit taking, and is now up 434 points at 9,478.

Mahindra & Mahindra has zoomed 15% to Rs 348. HDFC has soared over 12% to Rs 1,686.

Tata Power and ICICI Bank have surged nearly 11% each to Rs 684 and Rs 383, respectively. Reliance has rallied 10.5% to Rs 1,330.

Sterlite, Jaiprakash Associates and Tata Steel have moved up over 8% each to Rs 267, Rs 67 and Rs 203, respectively.

Hindustan Unilever, Tata Motors and Satyam have advanced around 5.5% each to Rs 220, Rs 166 and Rs 299, respectively.

Hindalco and BHEL are up 5% each at Rs 56 and Rs 1,237, respectively.

Ranbaxy has plunged 4.5% to Rs 165. ONGC has tumbled over 4% to Rs 623.

SBI has shed 2% at Rs 1,079, and Grasim has declined 1% to R s1,013.

Out of 2,481 stocks traded so far, 1,426 have advanced, 990 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
