Sensex up 579pts; HDFC up 13%, Ranbaxy slips into red

After touching a high of 9,859, the Sensex has pared some gains and is now up 579 points at 9,624.

HDFC has zoomed over 13% to Rs 1,702.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance, ICICI Bank and Tata Power have soared around 11% each to Rs 337, Rs 1,342, Rs 384 and Rs 683, respectively.

HDFC Bank has rallied nearly 9% to Rs 1,029. TCS and Tata Steel have surged around 8% each to Rs 587 and Rs 202, respectively.

Sterlite has gained 7.5% at Rs 265. ACC and Satyam have moved up over 7% each to Rs 508 and Rs 303, respectively.

Wipro has added 6.7% to Rs 273. Hindalco, Tata Motors, Larsen & Toubro, Infosys and Jaiprakash Associates are up around 6% each.

Ranbaxy, however, has slipped nearly 2% to Rs 170.

The market breadth is fairly positive - out of 2,320 stocks traded so far, 1,457 have advanced, 789 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
