The Sensex opened with a gain of 10 points at 6,407 points, and remained in positive territory throughout the session today. While the index breached the 6,450 levels in mid-morning trades, profit-taking in select counters thereafter saw it come off its highs and display a range-bound trend.The market witnessed a sharp turnaround in mid-noon trades as steep surge in tech and other select heavyweights saw the index touch an intra-day high of 6,472.The Sensex finally wrapped up the session with a gain of 67 points at 6,465 points.Infosys advanced nearly 2% (Rs 39) to Rs 2,118 ahead of its quarterly results on Thursday. Satyam notched up 2.26% gains (Rs 9) to Rs 410. Wipro, however, ended a per cent lower (Rs 7) at Rs 646.HLL gained 2% (Rs 3) to Rs 133. While ITC was up Rs 3 at Rs 1,402, Reliance was up a rupee at Rs 549. ONGC gained a per cent (Rs 9) to Rs 884.ICICI Bank flared up 3.53% (Rs 14) to Rs 408. While SBI clocked a per cent gain (Rs 4) to Rs 646, HDFC Bank was down a rupee at Rs 558.Bajaj moved up 1.39% (Rs 15) to Rs 1,081. While Maruti was up 1.54% (Rs 6) at Rs 408, Tata Motors ended with a steady gain of Rs 2 at Rs 421.ACC rose 1.58% (Rs 6) to Rs 363. Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja ended with steady gains at Rs 1,200 and Rs 406, respectively.HPCL logged 1.59% gains (Rs 5) to Rs 323, and L&T was up a per cent (Rs 8) at Rs 967. While Tata Power rose 2.14% (Rs 7) to Rs 348, Tisco gained nearly 2% (Rs 8) to Rs 389. Mphasis BFL, which announced a 23% increase in Q4FY05 consolidated net profit and a 1:1 bonus, advanced 7% to Rs 251. Geometric Software also moved up 7% to Rs 533. Helios & Matheson, which announced the acquisition of vMoksha for $19 million, gained 7% to Rs 161.TCS was up 1% at Rs 1,382. HCL Tech and Moser Baer also finished with gains. Mastek, which announced quarterly numbers yesterday, dropped 3.5% to Rs 365. i-flex, Tata Infotech and Patni closed with marginal declines today.PSU scrips attracted buying today. BEML zoomed nearly 11% to Rs 502. Concor moved up 5% to Rs 865. Hindustan Zinc, BRPL, Neyveli Lignite and BEL also closed at higher levels.All the indices closed with gains today. The BSE Consumer Durables Index advanced 2% to 1,513 points. The BSE Teck index was up over a per cent at 1,665.The mood was clearly bullish - out of 2,375 scrips traded, 1,448 advanced, 849 declined and 78 were unchanged today.Essar Steel topped the volume chart with trades in over 92 lakh shares followed by Motherson Sumi (over 61 lakh shares) and Oasis Media (over 58 lakh shares).Reliance was the most active counter with a turnover of nearly Rs 84 crore followed by Infosys (Rs 79 crore) and SBI (Rs 66 crore).
