The Sensex opened with a small positive gap of seven points at 7,227, which also turned out to be the low for the day. After moving in positive zone right through the day, the index touched a high of 7,296 towards the closing bell. Some profit-taking at higher levels saw the Sensex finally close with a gain of 67 points (0.93%) at 7,287.While 21 index scrips advanced with a volume of 1.09 crore shares totalling Rs 506 crore, eight declined with a volume of 20 lakh shares for Rs 118 crore and one was unchanged today.SBI moved up over 2% (Rs 17) to Rs 721. Reliance was up over a per cent (Rs 7) at Rs 645. Infosys was up Rs 18 at Rs 2,347.NTPC zoomed nearly 4% (Rs 3) to Rs 89. Tata Power gained 2.7% (Rs 10) to Rs 399. Reliance Energy was up 1.4% (Rs 9) at Rs 648.BHEL gained over 3% (Rs 28) to Rs 892. Hindalco was up 2.5% (Rs 31) at Rs 1,258. L&T moved up 1.9% (Rs 22) to Rs 1,204. HDFC moved up 3% (Rs 29) to Rs 931. HDFC Bank was up over 2% (Rs 13) at Rs 646. ACC gained over a per cent (Rs 6) at Rs 392. Gujarat Ambuja and Grasim also closed in positive zones.Advances outnumbered declines 2:1 - out of 2,549 scrips traded, 1,644 advanced, 841 declined and 64 were unchanged today.All the sectoral indices closed at higher levels today. The BSE Consumer Durables Index zoomed over 3% to 2,164. The BSE Capital Goods Index moved up over 2% to 3,847. The BSE Metal Index was also up over 2% at 5,554.Videocon International touched a high of 89 in early deals, but slipped on profit-taking at higher levels. The scrip, however, closed with a gain of 10% (Rs 7) at Rs 85. IndusInd Bank advanced over 8% to Rs 77. LIC Housing Finance also moved up 8% to Rs 227.Capital goods scrips continued to log gains. Alstom Projects jumped 7% to Rs 221. ABB was up 5% at Rs 1,490. Siemens gained over 2% to Rs 2,152. Alfa Laval was up over 3% at Rs 740. BEML, BEL and Thermax also closed with gains.Metal scrips, too, finished with sharp gains today. Essar Steel zoomed nearly 10% to Rs 51. Ispat Industries gained over 6% to Rs 19. Sesa Goa also moved up 6% to Rs 649. SAIL was up 3% at Rs 50. Gujarat NRE Coke was up 2% at Rs 125. JVSL, Jindal Stainless, Hind Zinc, Sterlite and Nalco also moved up.Uniply topped the volume chart with trades in over 2.40 crore shares followed by Himachal Futuristic (1.36 crore) and Reliance Capital (1.04 crore).Reliance Capital was the most active counter with a turnover of over Rs 416 crore followed by Reliance (Rs 141 crore) and Financial Technologies (Rs 92 crore).
