The Sensex opened with a huge positive gap of 53 points at 7,974, but dropped to a low of 7,921 in early morning deals. No surprises in the credit policy announcement by the RBI at noon saw the index zoom thereafter, and touch a high of 8,074 by late noon deals.After dropping from the high level and bouncing again before the closing bell, the Sensex finally finished with a gain of 71 points (0.90%) at 7,992.All the sectoral indices, except BSE Healthcare and Auto Indices, finished with gains. The BSE Capital Goods Index advanced over 2% (96 points) to 4,526. The BSE Bankex moved up 1.4% (63 points) to 4,528. The BSE Teck Index gained 1.3% (27 points) to 2,106. The BSE Oil & Gas Index was up over 1% at 3,805. The BSE PSU, FMCG, Metal, SmallCap and MidCap indices also moved up today.The BSE Auto Index declined 10 points to 3,535, and the BSE Healthcare Index was down five points at 2,706.Advances continued to be ahead of declines - out of 2,481 scrips traded, 1,383 moved up, 1,045 declined and 53 were unchanged today.SBI gained over 2% (Rs 21) to Rs 885. ICICI Bank was up Rs 6 at Rs 504. HDFC Bank, however, declined Rs 5 to Rs 630.While Reliance was up Rs 11 at Rs 768, ONGC added Rs 4 to Rs 930. ITC and HLL finished with gains at Rs 118 and Rs 167, respectively.TCS added 2.6% (Rs 36) to Rs 1,443. Satyam was up 1.7% (Rs 10) at Rs 608. Infosys was up Rs 14 at Rs 2,522. Wipro added Rs 4 to Rs 377.Dr. Reddy's moved up 4.6% (Rs 37) to Rs 844. Ranbaxy dropped 3% (Rs 11) to Rs 344.L&T zoomed 4% (Rs 53) to Rs 1,351. BHEL gained 2.5% (Rs 28) to Rs 1,156. Bharti was up 1.8% (Rs 6) at Rs 330. ACC, Cipla, Tata Power, Tata Motors, NTPC and Hindalco also finished with gains.Maruti declined Rs 15 to Rs 557. Hero Honda was down Rs 11 at Rs 715. Tata Steel, Reliance Energy, Grasim, Gujarat Ambuja and Bajaj also declined.Bank scrips logged gains today. Syndicate Bank advanced over 4% (Rs 18) to Rs 451. Oriental Bank was up 4% at Rs 250. Dena Bank, PNB, Allahabad Bank and BoB also finished with gains.Kinetic Engineering, which announced private placement of equity with Reliance Capital yesterday at Rs 178/share, was locked at its 5% upper limit at Rs 193 - a gain of Rs 9. Kinetic Motors zoomed 14% to Rs 67.HCL Technologies, which announced its Q1 results today, gained 5% (Rs 21) to Rs 472. HCL Infosystems moved up 6% to Rs 253.GMDC declined over 8% (Rs 40) to Rs 415. Sterlite Opticals, Polaris, J&K Bank and Raymond also declined.SBI was the most active counter with a turnover of Rs 261 crore followed by Reliance (Rs 212 crore), Satyam (Rs 115 crore), Reliance Capital (Rs 106 crore) and IPCL (Rs 90 crore).
