The Sensex opened with a positive gap of ten points at 7,059, but soon dipped to a low of 7,034 in early deals. Buying emerged in heavyweights, and the index bounced back into the green by early noon and held gains till the close today. Sustained buying in tech, heavyweights and pharma scrips saw the index zoom to a hgh of 7,125 - up 91 points from the intra-day low.The Sensex finally closed with a gain of 71 points (1.01%) at 7,120.While 22 index scrips advanced with a volume of 1.21 crore shares totllaing Rs 671 crore, eight declined with a volume of 22 lakh shares for Rs 89 crore.Infosys added 1.4% (Rs 32) to Rs 2,324. Wipro gained 2% (Rs 14) to Rs 754. TCS and Satyam also finished in positive zones.Reliance advanced over 2% (Rs 13) to Rs 642. ITC added 1.5% (Rs 23) to Rs 1,615. While ONGC was up 1.7% (Rs 16) to Rs 994, SBI was up Rs 11 at Rs 673.While Dr. Reddy's moved up 2% (Rs 14) to Rs 741, Ranbaxy was up Rs 14 at Rs 1,069.HDFC Bank gained over 2% (Rs 14) to Rs 602. Bajaj moved up 1.7% (Rs 22) to Rs 1,354.Hindalco, Reliance Energy and Tata Motors also finished with gains.Grasim and Maruti declined 2.7% each to Rs 1,062 and Rs 461, respectively.ICI India zoomed over 7% (Rs 18) to Rs 268. Reliance Capital advanced 6% (Rs 20) to Rs 372. J&K Bank moved up 6% (Rs 19) to Rs 364.Nirma, which announced the acquisition of Saurashtra Chemicals yesterday, firmed up 5% (Rs 22) to Rs 438.Advances were firmly ahead of declines - out of 2,533 scrips traded, 1,499 advanced, 973 declined and 61 were unchanged today.Reliance Capital continued to be the most active counter with a turnover of Rs 482 crore followed by Reliance (Rs 221 crore), Tata Steel (Rs 70 crore) and Infosys (Rs 67 crore).
