The Sensex has firmed up and now gained 121 points at 8,321.
Earlier in the day, the index opened 94 points lower at 8,104, and soon touched a low of 8,047. The index, thereafter, rebounded and rallied to a high of 8,265.
HDFC has surged 4.5% to Rs 1,202. Jaiprakash Associates has soared nearly 4% to Rs 69.
Wipro and Hindalco have rallied around 3.5% each to Rs 214 and Rs 39, respectively.
ONGC, TCS and NTPC have gained around 2.5% each at Rs 668, Rs 475 and Rs 177, respectively.
Reliance Communications, Reliance Infrastructure and Tata Steel too have moved up around 2.5% each to Rs 139, Rs 453 and Rs 156, respectively.
Larsen & Toubro and Infosys have added 2.3% to Rs 582 and Rs 1,210, respectively.

Hindustan Unilever and Maruti have plunged over 2% each to Rs 225 and Rs 653, respectively.
Ranbaxy has dropped nearly 2% to Rs 142, and ITC has slipped 1.5% to Rs 165.
The market breadth continues to remain fairly negative - out of 2,404 stocks traded, 1,489 have declined, 819 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
