The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 24 points at 8,333, which turned out to be the low for the day. Sustained buying across-the-board saw the index zoom to a high of 8,484 - a rally of 175 points from Thursday's close of 8,309. The Sensex finally closed with a gain of 1.95% ( 162 points) at 8,471.All the sectoral indices finished with strong gains. The BSE Auto Index zoomed 2.6% (93 points) to 3,701. The BSE PSU Index moved up 2.4% (115 points) to 4,912. The BSE Teck index was up 1.9% (42 points) at 2,227. The BSE Oil & Gas, Consumer Durables, Capital Goods, FMCG and Healthcare indices also moved up today.Advances were ahead of declines nearly 3:1 - out of 2,523 scrips traded, 1,813 advanced, 659 declined and 51 were unchanged today.Wipro advanced 5% (Rs 19) to Rs 404. Satyam added over 3% (Rs 21) to Rs 652. While Infosys gained 1% (Rs 26) to Rs 2,682, TCS was up Rs 15 at Rs 1,484.Hero Honda zoomed 4% (Rs 32) to Rs 809. Bajaj gained nearly 4% (Rs 71) to Rs 1,873. Tata Motors was up over 3% (Rs 15) at Rs 514.SBI moved up 2.6% (Rs 22) to Rs 871. Reliance moved past the Rs 800-mark in noon deals, but finally closed with a gain of Rs 10 at Rs 796.ONGC was up Rs 6 at Rs 980, and HLL was up Rs 3 at Rs 172.Dr. Reddy's gained 2.6% (Rs 24) to Rs 939. While Ranbaxy was up Rs 6 at Rs 382, Cipla was up Rs 4 at Rs 380.NTPC zoomed over 4% (Rs 4) to Rs 104. BHEL added 3.8% (Rs 47) to Rs 1,295. L&T moved up 2.7% (Rs 42) to Rs 1,576. Tata Power was up Rs 14 at Rs 438.Bharti added Rs 10 to Rs 353. HDFC was up Rs 15 at Rs 1,050. Tata Steel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, ACC and Grasim also finished with gains.Oil scrips, which had rallied sharply yesterday, logged more gains today. BPCL zoomed over 5% (Rs 23) to Rs 439. Indian Oil was up over 4% at Rs 510. IBP added 3% (Rs 18) to Rs 542. HPCL was up Rs 10 at Rs 330, and Gail was up Rs 8 at Rs 259.Reliance was the most active counter with a turnover of Rs 177 crore followed by SBI (Rs 145 crore), Reliance Capital (Rs 107 crore), Titan (Rs 82 crore) and Suzlon (Rs 77 crore).
