The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 15 points at 9,071, and dropped to a low of 9,021 in early deals. Buying at lower levels saw the index erase the loss, and move into positive zone in late morning deals.Sustained buying in heavyweights, especially Reliance, saw the index zoom to a high of 9,297 - an intra-day swing of 276 points. The Sensex finally closed on a firm note with a gain of 197 points (2.2%) at 9,283.All the sectoral indices rallied sharply today. The BSE Oil & Gas Index zoomed 2.8% (119 points) to 4,334. The BSE Bankex advanced 2.6% (125 points) to 5,025. The BSE Auto Index moved up over 2% (98 points) to 4,237. The BSE Teck Index also gained over 2% (53 points) to 2,428.Advances were ahead of declines 2:1 - out of 2,523 scrips traded, 1,716 advanced, 744 declined and 63 were unchanged today.Reliance zoomed over 4% (Rs 34) to Rs 867. Reliance Energy gained 4% (Rs 23) to Rs 601.SBI moved up 2.6% (Rs 22) to Rs 891. ITC was up over 2% (Rs 3) at Rs 141. HLL added 1.8% (Rs 3) to Rs 192. ONGC, however, declined Rs 4 to Rs 1,182.Satyam advanced 4% (Rs 27) to Rs 722. TCS added over 2% (Rs 38) to Rs 1,700. While Infosys was up 1.6% (Rs 47) at Rs 2,997, Wipro added Rs 5 to Rs 462.Tata Motors moved up 3.4% (Rs 22) to Rs 659. Maruti was up 2.7% (Rs 17) at Rs 631. Bajaj added Rs 20 to Rs 2,043, and Hero Honda was up Rs 11 at Rs 862.Grasim was up Rs 23 at Rs 1,323. ACC gained Rs 13 to Rs 536. Gujarat Ambuja moved up to Rs 78.BHEL zoomed over 4% (Rs 54) to Rs 1,382. L&T added 2% (Rs 38) to Rs 1,792. Bharti advanced over 3% (Rs 11) to Rs 344. ICICI Bank advanced 3% (Rs 18) to Rs 578. Cipla, Dr. Reddy's, Ranbaxy, Hindalco, NTPC, Tata Steel and Tata Power also finished with gains today.Bank scrips logged gains today. Canara Bank zoomed 8% (Rs 19) to Rs 238. UTI Bank gained over 5% to Rs 303. Bank of India was up 5% at Rs 122. Federal Bank was up 4% at Rs 178.Fertiliser stocks declined today. National Fertilisers dropped 3% to Rs 45. RCF declined 2% to Rs 44. FACT was down 2% at Rs 35.Reliance was the most active counter with a turnover of Rs 202 crore followed by Satyam (Rs 142 crore), SBI (Rs 111 crore), Reliance Capital (Rs 97 crore) and Tata Motors (Rs 95 crore).
