The Sensex, after a two-day break, opened with a positive gap of 116 points backed by the firm trend in global markets. Steady buying in heavyweights saw the index display a firm trend throughout the day.The index rallied to a high of 14,107 before settling with a gain of 206 points at 14,078.The BSE Oil & Gas index soared nearly 3% to 7338. The Metal index surged nearly 2% to 10,015, and the Auto index added 1.5% to 5071.The market breadth was positive - out of 2,660 stocks traded, 1,557 advanced, 1,016 declined and 87 were unchanged today.MOVERS & SHAKERSReliance surged 4% (Rs 63) to Rs 1,623.Bajaj Auto rallied over 4% to Rs 2,551, and Ranbaxy soared 3.5% to Rs 384.Gujarat Ambuja and Hero Honda advanced over 3% each to Rs 122 and Rs 705, respectively.Bharti Airtel and Larsen & Toubro moved up 2.7% each to Rs 834 and Rs 1,741, respectively.Grasim, BHEL and TCS gained 2% each at Rs 2,493, Rs 2,536 and Rs 1,290, respectively. ACC, Infosys, SBI and Maruti were up around 1.5% each at Rs 852, Rs 2,081, Rs 1,122 and Rs 814, respectively.Tata Motors and HDFC Bank slipped over 2% each to Rs 734 and Rs 1,006, respectively.HLL dropped 1.8% to Rs 196, and Reliance Communications shed 1% to Rs 472.VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERSIFCI topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 155 crore followed by Reliance (Rs 138.40 crore), Network FinCap (Rs 113.70 crore), Tech Mahindra (Rs 113.50 crore) and Reliance Communications (Rs 112.50 crore).IFCI led the volume chart with trades of around 3.30 crore shares followed by Tata Teleservices (1.70 crore), Nagarjuna Fertilisers (95 lakh), Firstsource (69.55 lakh) and Dish TV (56.85 lakh).
