Another day when players were caught on the wrong foot!A sharp drop in Infosys (down 3%) in the opening trades following its Q3 numbers saw the Sensex open (30 points) lower at 13,332, and slip to a low of 13,303.However, buying in select heavyweights saw the index move into positive zone in late morning deals. The index, thereafter, displayed volatility till noon trades.Agressive buying in FMCG and technology stocks in late noon trades, including Infosys, saw the index rally to a high of 13,668 - up 365 points from the day's low.The Sensex finally settled with a gain of 269 points at 13,631 thereby snapping a five-day fall wherein the index had shed 653 points.All the sectoral indices ended on a positive note. The BSE FMCG index soared over 3% to 1909. The Auto, IT, Metal and PSU indices rallied 2% each to 5555, 5231, 8845 and 6049, respectively. While the Small-cap index surged nearly 2% to 7278, the Mid-cap index gained over 1% at 5896.Advances beat declines 2:1 - out of 2,702 stocks traded, 1,759 advanced, and 886 declined today.INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERSInfosys, which announced its Q3 numbers today and raised its FY07 expectations, opened significantly lower at Rs 2,124 as against its previous close of Rs 2,169. The stock dropped to a low of Rs 2,100, and traded in negative zone for the better part of the day. However, renewed buying towards the end saw the stock rebound and rally to a high of Rs 2,214. The stock finally ended with a marginal (Rs 14) gain at Rs 2,183.Wipro soared over 5% (Rs 31) to Rs 621. TCS and Satyam rallied 3.5% each to Rs 1,277 and Rs 480, respectively.Reliance Communications zoomed nearly 5% (Rs 20) to Rs 427, and Bharti Airtel surged nearly 4% to Rs 637.HLL flared up 4.5% to Rs 218, and ITC added 3.5% to Rs 169.NTPC moved up over 3% to Rs 137. ACC, Maruti and ONGC gained nearly 3% each at Rs 1,050, Rs 906 and Rs 915, respectively.Dr.Reddy's, Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Auto, Tata Steel and Hindalco advanced over 2% each to Rs 793, Rs 1,440, Rs 2,760, Rs 462 and Rs 168, respectively.Reliance, Reliance Energy and Gujarat Ambuja were up 1.7% each at Rs 1,295, Rs 513 and Rs 139, respectively.VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERSTech Mahindra topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 260.80 crore followed by IFCI (Rs 246.77 crore), Infosys (Rs 225.20 crore), Reliance Communications (Rs 141.30 crore) and Shree Ashtavinayak (Rs 125.50 crore).IFCI led the volume chart with trades of around 1.30 crore shares followed by Zee News (76 lakh), Pentium Infotech (62.85 lakh), Harig Cranks (55.85 lakh) and Shree Ashtavinayak (52.45 lakh).
