This study is based on the shareholding pattern of 2,100 companies as on September 30, 2004. These companies accounted for 94 per cent of the total market capitalisation. The market capitalisation of these companies has increased by 15 per cent (Rs 2,00,000 crore) to Rs 14,54,808 crore. |

The promoters are richer by over Rs 1,05,340 crore, of which the government has a share of Rs 44,000 crore. Private sector promoters are sitting on an additional Rs 611 billion (Rs 61,100 crore) of wealth. |

The FIIs holdings have appreciated by Rs 236 billion (Rs 23,649 crore). The FIs have raked in Rs 10,677 crore as mutual funds saw their equity corpus appreciated by Rs 5,489 crore. The Indian public got Rs 229 billion (Rs 22,949 crore). |

The FIIs hold shares in 673 companies and their stake is currently valued at Rs 1,842 billion (Rs 1,84,186 crore). Most of the FIIs holding is in companies in the Sensex basket. |

The FIIs realised gains of over 20 per cent each in ten Sensex stocks, while in another ten, these benefited from a 10-20 per cent price appreciation. |
