Key indices ended up more than 2 per cent on Thursday after a volatile session, on short covering towards the end of the session. |
The market closed up for the first time in three sessions. Earlier during the session, indices declined 1 per cent on lack of any positive surprise from the third quarter earnings of Infosys Technologies, which detailed results before the market opened on Thursday. |
"The market was looking for some good surprises from Infosys, and took a hit when it did not come. The reaction was purely a knee-jerk one," a dealer said. |
However, sentiment for Infosys Technologies and the entire sector improved after several brokerages remained positive on the two, and on hopes margins would remain healthy despite the sharp appreciation of the rupee in the last quarter. |
"Margin-impact on tech firms is the key factor to look at, and after Infosys maintained healthy margins in the last quarter, other companies are also expected to do so," Priyadarshi Srivastava, head of research at Niche Brokerage said. |
