Silver prices rose by 0.84 per cent to Rs 44,334 per kg in futures trade today as traders indulged in increasing positions, driven by a firm trend overseas.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, silver for September contract traded Rs 368, or 0.84 per cent higher at Rs 44,334 per kg, with a trading volume of 2 lots, while March contract shot up by Rs 202, or 0.46 per cent to Rs 43,894 per kg, with an open interest of 3 lots.
Marketmen said trading sentiment boosted as the metal in overseas markets on concern about Europe's debt woes spurred demand for precious metals.
Meanwhile, silver for immediate delivery rose 0.6 per cent to USD 28.8925 an ounce. It had rallied to $30.7025 on December 7, highest since 1980.
