Silver prices went up by 0.14% to Rs 57,554 per kg in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions, taking positive cues from overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, the March contract went up by Rs 82, or 0.14%, to Rs 57,554 per kg in business turnover of 1,455 lots.

Similarly, the May contract traded higher by Rs 75, or 0.13%, to Rs 58,862 per kg in 60 lots.

Analysts said speculative positions created by participants, driven by a firming trend in the global markets as investors boosted holdings to a record, have mainly pushed up silver futures.

Globally, silver rose 0.20% to $ 30.06 an ounce in Singapore.

Meanwhile, the metal has climbed 8% in the overseas markets in 2012 as holdings in exchange-traded products expanded 9.4% this year to 18,915.13 metric tons yesterday.
