Silver prices fell by Rs 279 or 0.96 per cent to Rs 28,924 per kg in futures trade today, on emergence of selling sparked by a weakening trend in overseas markets.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, silver for March contract fell by Rs 279, or 0.96 per cent to Rs 28,924 per kg, with an open interest of 38 lots.
The metal for delivery in July contract also declined by Rs 167, or 0.58 per cent to Rs 28,565 per kg, with a business turnover of 13,116 lots.
Marketmen said fresh selling by traders in tandem with a weakening global trend, where prices traded below $18 an ounce, pulled down silver prices at futures trade.
Meanwhile, silver lost 0.2 per cent to $17.94 an ounce in London.
