Silver futures up on global cues

Silver prices moved up by Rs 156 or 0.54 per cent to Rs 29,178 per kg in futures trade today on emergence of buying triggered by a firming global trend.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for December contract rose Rs 156, or 0.54 per cent to Rs 29,178 per kg, with an open interest of 90 lots.

The metal for delivery in July contract also gained by Rs 38, or 0.13 per cent to Rs 28,800 per kg, with a business turnover of 13,364 lots.

Traders said fresh buying by speculators in tandem with a firming global trend pushed up silver prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, silver rose 0.2 per cent to $18.25 an ounce in the Asian region.
