Silver futures prices moved up by Rs 144 to Rs 36,236 per kg today, as speculators enlarged their holdings on pick up in demand in the spot market.
Firming trend in overseas markets further fueled the uptrend.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, silver for March delivery rose by Rs 144, or 0.40 per cent, to Rs 36,236 per kg, with a business turnover of two lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in December edged higher by Rs 122, or 0.34 per cent, to Rs 36,076 per kg, with a trade volume of just one lot.
Traders said positions enlarged by speculators and reports of firming trend in it prices in overseas market, mainly led to rise in silver prices.
Meanwhile, silver traded higher by 1.99 per cent to $24.03 an ounce in New York last night.
