Silver hits new record at Rs 50,550 on global cues; gold up Rs10

Silver climbed to record high by adding Rs 300 to Rs 50,550 per kg on the bullion market today on brisk buying by stockists and industrial units, amid firm global trends.

Gold inched up by Rs 10 to Rs 21,180 per 10 grams on local buying for the ongoing marriage season. 

Trading sentiments turned bullish after gold advanced in global markets as tensions in the Middle East and costlier oil increased demand for precious metals as an alternate investment.

In global markets, gold climbed 0.3 per cent to $1,415.15 an ounce and silver by 0.3 per cent to $33.49 an ounce. 

On the domestic front, silver ready spurted Rs 300 to hit an all-time high level of Rs 50,550 per kg and silver weekly-based delivery by Rs 775 to Rs 50,445 per kg.

However, silver coins held steady at Rs 54,500 for buying and Rs 54,600 for selling of 100 pieces.

Gold of 99.9 and 99.5 per cent purity traded marginally higher by Rs 10 each to Rs 21,180 and Rs 21,060 per 10 grams respectively, while sovereign remained stable at Rs 17,200 per piece of eight grams.
