Small and mid-cap indices underperform

The BSE mid-cap and small-cap indices have underperformed the broader index.

The indices have gained 0.3% each to 6,605 and 8,339, respectively. Earlier in the day, the BSE small cap index had touched a high of 8,319.

The Sensex, on the other hand, is up 135 points (0.8%) at 16,523.

The Nifty is up 28 points at 4,945.

The BSE auto, capital goods, oil abd FMCG indices have moved up over 1% each.

Among the mid-cap stocks, REI Agro has surged 7.7% to Rs 46. Fortis Healthcare has jumped 5.7% to Rs 147.

Hindustan Oil, Apollo Hospital, Ruchi Soya, Reisic Tenr and Jain Irrigation have gained 4-5% each.

Small-cap gainers include Cals Refineries, which has soared 18%. Kolte Patil has rallied 9% to Rs 59.

Avaya Global Connect has jumped 8.7% to Rs 282. ZF Steering, Plethico Pharma, Jyothi Labs, Ruchi Infra and NRB Bearings have added 5-6% each.

However, Emco is the biggest loser among small-cap stocks. The stock has dropped 7.3% to Rs 75.

Thiru Aroonan, Cambridga Solutions, Kanani Industries and Subhkam Cap are the other losers today.

Among the Sensex stocks, Hindalco has dropped 1.6% to Rs 145. Meanwhile, Sterlite, ONGC, Mahindra & Mahindra and ITC have added 2-4% each.

The BSE market breadth continues to be positive. Out of 2,654 stocks traded, 1,442 have advanced while 1,115 have declined.
