Soyameal exports rose by 70% to Rs 3,754.31 crore in the October-January period of the current oil year on account of sharp rise in volumes, according to the industry data.

Oil year runs from October to September.

The country had exported soyameal worth Rs 2,207.89 crore in the year-ago period.

According to the data compiled by the Soyabean Processors Association (SOPA), exports increased by 83% to 2.04 million tonnes in the first four months of 2010-11 oil year against 1.11 million tonnes in the year-ago period.

During October-January period of 2010-11, Japan has imported the maximum soyameal at about 5,87,000 tonnes, followed by Vietnam 5,18,000 tonnes, Indonesia 1,92,000 tonnes and China 1,14,000 tonnes.

The association has attributed the rise in exports to higher demand from overseas and better domestic production.
