Country’s soyameal exports surged by 38.64 per cent to 4.8 million tonnes during the oil year 2007-08, according to the Soyabean Processor Association of India.
Overseas sale of soyameal in the last year same period stood at 3.5 million tonnes, it said. Oil year runs from October to September.
As per the data released by the Indore-based Soyabean Processor Association of India (SOPA), of 45 major export destinations, demand from Malaysia, Japan, China, Vietnam and Thailand increased significantly.
As a result, shipments to Malaysia rose more than two-fold at 122,000 tonnes, exports to Japan by 72 per cent at 857,000 tonnes, China by 54 per cent at 200,000 tonnes and to Vietnam by 39 per cent at Rs 124,300 tonnes, SOPA Coordinator Rajesh Agrawal said.
Interestingly, exports during the last month (September) of oil year declined sharply by 69 per cent to 68,442 tonnes from 223,000 tonnes in the previous year, he said.
About 350,000 tonnes exported to Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh via rail and road was, however, not included in the data, he added.
