The country hopes to export a record 4.5 million tonnes (mt) of soymeal to destinations in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam and South Korea, in the year ending September, Rajesh Agrawal, coordinator of the Indore-based Soybean Processors' Association of India, said.

This is despite delays in shipments due to non-availability of freight trains to transport the meal to ports, he said. Indian soymeal is a preferred poultry feed in Southeast Asia because of lower freight costs, high protein content, and shorter shipping periods.

The Indian soymeal faces competition from leading exporters "" Brazil, Argentina, and the US.
