During the four-month period of April-July, the country's spices exports saw a marginal drop of 4 per cent at 1,11,132 tonne and a decent rise of 11 per cent at Rs 864.80 crore in value realisation, on a y-o-y basis. July alone logged 27,757 tonne exports. |
In April-July 2005, total exports of spices were 1,15,811 tonne, which was valued at Rs 754.47 crore. |

Total exports during the first quarter of the current financial year stood at 83,375 tonne, which marked a realisation of Rs 639.20 crore. |

Chilli contributed the largest chunk to the April-July exports at 33,000 tonne (valued at 155.10 crore), followed by turmeric 18,250 tonne (Rs 61.10 crore) and cumin 10,250 tonne (Rs 70.50 crore). The steep rise in the exports of chilli in July was because of shipment of an additional 10,500 tonne during the month. |

The country also exported 9,500 tonne garlic (worth Rs 18 crore) and 6,750 tonne pepper (Rs 56.40 crore), according to Spices Board estimates. |

Curry powder/ paste of 3,150 tonne valued at Rs 28.20 crore and 1,950 tonne of spice oils and oleoresin valued at Rs 16.45 crore were also exported during the April-July period. |

For the entire 2005-06, the country exported 3,20,527 tonne spices valued at Rs 2295.25 crore, while the all-time highest full-year exports recorded were 3,35,488 tonne in the previous year. Value realisation in 2004-05 was Rs 2,200 crore. |

This means even though the quantity for 2005-06 dropped 4.5 per cent, the year saw 4.3 per cent increase in value. |

The full year 2005-06 saw exports of 1,13,250 tonne chilli "� valued at Rs 403.50 crore, compared with an all-time high 1,38,000 tonne worth Rs 499 crore in 2004-05. |

This shows a drop of 17.9 per cent in quantity and 19.1 per cent in value, on a y-o-o basis. In 2005-06, turmeric exports followed chilli in terms of quantity at 46,500 tonne. |

Again, for April-July, the country exported a higher 6,500 tonne quantity of coriander at Rs 23.50 crore and mint products "� including mint oils, menthol and menthol crystals "� of 3150 tonne at Rs 188 crore. |

For the same four-month period, while exports of vanilla were just 67 tonne, cardamom exports touched 460 tonne. |
