Sugar declines on reduced demand

Sugar prices declined moderately at the Vashi wholesale market here today on reduced demand from retailers and bulk consumers amid ample stock position.

Meanwhile, the government decision to release additional sugar through the public distribution system for the current month, mainly led to the decline, traders said.

Small sugar quality (S-30) dipped by Rs 5/16 per quintal to Rs 2,640/2,686 from Thursday's closing level of Rs 2,656/ 2,691.

Medium sugar quality (M-30) also fell by Rs 5/14 per quintal to Rs 2,686/2,776, as against Rs 2,700/2,781 yesterday.

Following are today's closing rates per quintal, with previous rates in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality Rs 2,640/2,686 (Rs 2,656/ 2,691) and Medium sugar (M-30) quality Rs 2,686/2,776 (Rs 2,700/2,781)
